On January 11, 2021, Google announced an update to its search console coverage report, in which Google explained how to solve the issue related to indexing.
This blog will learn about Google’s search console coverage report updates, what this update is, and how the coverage report updates help indexing problems and rankings.
Now let’s talk about the update of the coverage report on Google.
As we know, the coverage report is a part of Google’s Search Console, and this coverage report tells us how much of our website is indexed, what are the problems, what is the warning, which page is not indexed, and Which pages are excluded, why are they excluded?
There are four updates in this search console coverage report by Google, and we will understand each update one by one: –
1st: Crawl Anomaly: – When we visit the Excluded section in the coverage report of Google Search Console, crawl anomaly used to be one of the reasons for the exclusion related to indexing problems.
The crawl anomaly is not a fixed error, and the anomaly means that something that cannot be easily classified is an anomaly. Previously whenever there was a problem crawling Google, Google used to tag it by crawling anomaly common words.
But now Google will give us an exact reason why the crawl is not happening or the crawl is getting errors to solve this crawl error quickly. In this exact reason for Google, there will be full details on how we can solve the crawl errors.
2nd: Indexed But Blocked: – In this section, the “submitted but blocked” error will be upgraded by Google to the “indexed but blocked” warning.
There are many times that the robots.txt instructions block some pages, but due to some other reasons, it’s indexed, for such pages, this error was counted previously a “submitted but blocked” error. But it would no longer be counted as errors, and now it will be a warning called “indexed but blocked” warning.
3rd: Indexed Without Content: – This will be a warning, Indexed Without Content, this error will be displayed when a page is in Google indexed, but due to some technical errors, the Content of that page will not be read by Google.
4th: Soft 4O4 Reporting: – This is the last part of coverage report update; this Soft 4O4 issue is not a technical issue; it is Google’s term.
If the status code of a page is 200, it means that everything is fine, but Google thinks that, no, this page is completely empty, in this page use very little Content, then Google Tags this type of pages in Soft 4O4.
Till now, Google did not give much information about this, but now Google will give more and more information about this Soft 4O4 error, using which, we can solve the Soft 4O4 problem.
